February 2012:ENERCON Announces Receipt of Patent For Innovative Nuclear Reactor Filter System for Use in Emergency Core Cooling Systems
Patent ensures greater safety of operation
Kennesaw, Ga. -- (February 15, 2012) -- ENERCON, a multi-disciplined engineering, environmental and technical consulting energy company since 1983, has received patents (USPN 8048319 and USPN 8054932) for a filter medium for strainers used in nuclear reactor emergency core cooling systems (ECCS).
ENERCON President John Richardson said, "This product was developed in response to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Generic Safety Issue, GSI-191, “Assessment of Debris Accumulation on PWR Sump Performance” in which following a Loss of Coolant Accident, during long term recirculation cooling of the reactor core, fibrous debris material could bypass through the ECCS sump strainer and potentially block cooling water flow paths in the reactor core. This product, called the “Debris Bypass Eliminator”, is a secondary filter system that works with the ECCS sump strainer to reduce or eliminate the fibrous debris material in the cooling water entering the reactor core. Currently, 11 nuclear power plants in the United States have the ENERCON Debris Bypass Eliminator installed in their ECCS sump strainers.”
Patent Inventor, Aaron Smith, Engineering Manager, said "The Debris Bypass Eliminator has specifically helped these 11 plants address one of the major safety issues in the US nuclear power industry. ENERCON is currently working with other nuclear plants in exploring how the Debris Bypass Eliminator may enhance the performance of their current ECCS sump strainers. We are also assessing the ability of this product to help other electric and industrial plants address cooling water issues associated with their facilities.”
Shown above, left, the Debris Bypass Eliminator (Secondary filter) design sketch and right, the Debris Bypass Eliminator at the end of a laboratory test, showing the trapped bypass debris material that would have otherwise potentially flowed to a downstream reactor vessel core.

February 2008: ENERCON Reorganization To Benefit New Nuclear Power Plant Construction, Larger Northeast division will strengthen all service areas
TULSA, Okla. - (February 13, 2008) - Enercon Services, Inc. (ENERCON) has announced a company-wide reorganization. The company is consolidating two power generation divisions, the Northeast Operations Division and the Plant Technical Services Division, in order to serve clients with an engineering organization, which is focused on operating plant services.
ENERCON’s Vice President of Power Generation Carter Noland said, “Operating plant services, especially engineering services in the nuclear industry, are now a heavily sought after market segment because of the inevitable road to the engineering and construction of new nuclear plants.
In response to this need, ENERCON will provide the industry with a stronger engineering organization than currently offered with these separate divisions.
Noland added, “Combining these divisions will immediately result in a stronger organization and will increase our depth in all engineering disciplines as well as project management in the Northeast. This will sustain our expansion and help take full advantage of these immediate opportunities. A larger division in the Northeast will also provide the depth to more effectively support our growing client base in all service areas.”
David Studley will run the new consolidated division as director of operations, with direct reports: Manager of Projects Dave Maseiro, Manager of Design Paul Hansen and Manager of New Nuclear Plant Engineering Shelley Kowkabany.
